Any Given Saturday: New college football paradigm brings chaos, huge buyouts

ESPN - Dan Wetzel, October 21, 2025

College football has never been this competitive, this wild -- or this interesting. The fun isn't being hoarded by a few super powers. Read the full story.

Kiffy’s Take

Great read from Wetzel, although not specific to Kiffin. Lays out the new paradigm in college football - tradition is out, transaction is in - and anyone can be a winner. Proof of concept: Ole Miss, Mizzou, Vandy, etc. Can Lane keep winning big at Ole Miss? If the money is there, yes.

Chris Doering discusses how it may not be “that simple” for Florida to pull Lane Kiffin from Ole Miss.

Kiffy’s Take

Doering alludes to a “toxic” fanbase at Florida - or at least one that overvalues the job. Other media members (CBS’ Tim Brando comes to mind) have expressed similar sentiments. Interesting this time, it’s coming directly from a Gator. His other comments about Ole Miss’ financial commitment back up the ESPN story above from Wetzel, although, I’m not sure the Grove Collective is actually “Top 5” in the country. The full interview does expand into other factors that influence jobs, but the hosts are clearly from the old school of thought where the logo matters more than anything else.
